Adding a single image

Images are the heart and soul of PencilBooth, and will most likely be the bulk of your take. Currently there are two methods to add images - either as a single image or as a gallery.

To add a single image, click 'add a single image' in the upload box and select your image

PencilBooth accepts all image formats of any size, but we suggest optimising your images beforehand if possible. Images over 5mb will be resized on our end to allow for faster delivery.

Once your image is uploaded you'll see some options in the top right hand corner.

The trash icon deletes the image. The Alt icon allows you to add Alt Text. The Link icon lets you associated a link with the image and the three dots allow for more formatting options.

If you tap the link button and add a link, that will make the image clickable in your take, and will take viewers to that link.

If you toggle the 'show link button' on, that will add a button below the post which you can put whatever text you want:

Clicking on the three dots gives you the ability to add links, and alt text and delete the take, as well as additional formatting options:

The up and down arrows are used to change the order of the images.

The horizontal arrows allow for three different image widths - Standard, wide, and full width.

Tags allow you to apply your own custom tags to an image which will enable filtering on your visual archive.

If you enable Set as Hero Image on an image, that means it will use this image as the image to represent your take in both your visual archive as well as the discover page.

If you have paid subscriptions enabled, you will see an additional toggle both in the options bar as well as under the three dots menu to enable the content only viewable for paid subscribers.

If you want to say more about an image, you can add a title and caption by clicking anywhere on the image:

This will bring up placeholder headlines and captions. You can write in one field or both. If you only write in one, nothing will appear in the other:
